A Child’s plea

05 Sep 2017

 Dear LPG,

I am but a child, even though I am retired with grown up children of my own, and as such I would like to appeal on behalf of all children of older parents, not only in Lewisham but around this world of ours.

This is my Plea; Please Mums and Dads, if you have one, take your mobile phone out with you wherever you go. You don’t have to be able to use the internet or even phone your child, but take it with you and learn how to answer it.  I know that when the older amongst us were parents worrying about their children, there were no mobile phones to make a reassuring call with, but now, since the Good Lord put the invention in someone’s head, we should take advantage of something that can give so much peace of mind.

My Mum, who lives in the same house as me, popped out to do some shopping the other day.  Minutes later I decided to remind her about an item that she might forget, but when I made the call I heard the phone ringing in her bedroom which I found really frustrating as you can imagine.  Picture a more serious scenario; your parent has gone to the local doctor to make an appointment and has been out over an hour longer than you expected.  If you call, and she tells you that they offered her an appointment if she waited, so much anguish would be avoided.

Whenever we leave our homes it nearly always comes naturally to remember our front door keys; can I ask that we, like the younger members of our society, add our mobile phone to that process?

Perhaps this little song might help to trigger the memory ….  (►►►)
