The disappearing Bee

03 Oct 2017

Hello LPG

I am one of the many avid gardeners who live in the borough of Lewisham.  I have been growing my plants from seed for many years, and I have often got caught up watching the bees, from a safe distance, as they buzz from flower to flower.  In past years there used to be so many that they were difficult to count.   I can remember when I opened my back door on a summer’s day and found my family complaining about the amount of bees, insects, butterflies and flies buzzing around the house.

Over the years I have noticed that there are less and less bees hovering around.  I have to say that there has been a few more this year than during the past two or three years.  I think that it is a worrying trend.

When there were lots of insects around I remember buying cans of insect repellent during the summer months, but the only thing that I have tried to repel this year are slugs. It is ironic that now there are so few flying insects around I am missing them?

I am interested to know if I am alone with my thinking here.
