Before you get out of bed?

25 Feb 2018

Dear LPG,

I read the article you featured on February 4th  and wanted to share just a little more information on this subject.

I, like JT, keep being told about how important it is to exercise but, though I also have to admit to not looking graceful enough to join in with a group,  I put my excuse down to not being willing to make the time for it.  Every so often I promise myself that I will make a regular time for getting fit and I even manage to stick to my resolve for as long as a week, but eventually a phone call or an interesting program on the TV will attract my attention and take up the time that I allotted.  I will then have to rearrange my activities and something will have to be skipped.  That bit of exercise is the easiest thing to miss out on and, once I have skipped the first session, dropping the habit is so easy to do that you can guarantee that I will.

I know that I am not the only person who is guilty of using these reasons for side-stepping a regular exercise habit.   This year I have adopted a new exercise agenda which has, so far, worked for me in as much as I have followed it for over a month now and I have not missed a day yet.

I have found some exercises that I can do before I actually get out of bed and thought that it would be good to introduce those who have not yet tried, to them.

It is just my opinion but I find that it is easier to get started because there is no preparation needed.  You are all but in the right position to get started as soon as you wake up, although the general stiffness that we older ones feel first thing may be a reason to ease yourself in.

I have to admit to getting out of bed a little less stiff in the mornings since I started and also that I sidestepped getting an exercise video by finding a YouTube DVD that does the trick for me.

LPG would like to thank KE who did let us know which video clip she was following, and we also found some exercises designed for people who for some reason have no choice but to spend a period of time in bed.  Remember that, whatever routine you choose, you should not overdo any exercise move.  It is important to be aware of how your body feels after you try them and check that exercise is right for you by asking your GP’s advice when you next visit.
