Overthinking

Dear LPG,
I think that for those of us who live alone, Christmas is one of those times when we can indulge in too much thinking about the big questions of life. But even though Christmas is now long gone, chats with some of my friends have highlighted that many of us are still having some pretty depressing thought sessions from time to time.
I don’t think I am alone when I say that overthinking life can get us down if we let it. I have a habit of thinking about all the things that I could have done and didn’t do, and that can often be the prelude to a really depressing day which leads to another and another.
Perhaps it is more important to think ahead; about what we are going to do in the future rather than how bleak it could be.
So I have devised a recipe for positive thinking for our readers.
1. Think about that thing you regret not having done when you were younger, and if that brings no result, think about something you would really like to achieve, no matter how difficult that seems.
You have to be a bit realistic here… it is no good wanting to be the goalkeeper at Manchester United if you have a knee replacement, although writing down some of the things that happened in your life when you were younger for your grandchildren could be fun. -
2. Get started.
Aim to do just a little bit each day, or week, and you will be surprised how much of those depressing thoughts you used to have will be replaced with positive thinking about your new project.
