Remembering a Radio Great…
10 May 2018
Dear LPG,
Now that I have worked out how to use Google on my mobile phone I use it a lot more often than I ever used Google before.
I met a friend for a chat in a café the other day and we got reminiscing. We got to remembering a broadcaster from pre-war days.
We got talking about Alver Liddell and his very unique voice. Those were the days when BBC radio announcers used faultless dialect-less accents to communicate the news and radio drama. I can close my eyes now, even though I was quite young at the time, and remember his announcement, which introduced the country to the news of King Edward VIII’s abdication.
I am hoping that LPG will be able to add a link so that readers old enough to remember can close their eyes and reminisce a little too.
EW, Downham
LPG found the clip that inspired EW’s letter to us and we also have shared a link to many other announcements made by this very influential radio personality.
