Less pleasant pleasantries
28 Jun 2017
Dear LPG,
Emails have largely taken the place of letters these days and I agree that they have their place in the convenient world that ours has now evolved into being.
But in my opinion there was something very special about the usual greeting. I have spent so much of my life opening envelopes and reading a letter that started with the word ‘Dear’ that it seems that opening an email and being addressed with ‘Hi’ or ‘Hello’ is just not the same. To my mind it is another indication that our world is very gradually becoming so much more casual.
Are there any other readers who receive emails and find this to be yet another warning that standards are changing (and perhaps not for the better)?
