Duplicate Duplication.

17 Aug 2018

Dear LPG,

I have a concern which bothers me a little and I would like to find out if I am the only person who feels that both private businesses and the establishment are wasting our money in this way.

I am a tenant and not in the private sector.  As such, I am used to receiving official letters from my landlords from time to time but the other morning I picked three letters from my front door mat.  The first was a letter informing of some work that my landlords wanted to do at my home.  I took that information on board and opened the second one only to find exactly the same information.  About a week later I received the expected annual letter which informs of the annual raise in my occupational pension and this one arrived in triplicate.

I found it interesting that each of these agencies saw the necessity to send me so many copies of their letter which were all sent separately, each set of letters had identical dates, were received on the same day and contained exactly the same information.

The coincidence left me wondering if these agencies have duplicated similar information to all the tenants and pension holders respectively and how the extra cost of doing that may have affected my council tax and pensions.  As I have had this experience twice now, I am wondering how many other people open duplicate copies of official letters and at what cost to the general public.

I would like to think that there completely plausible explanation for this duplication and plan to contact each of the senders a letter informing them of my interest in learning why it happens, how often it happens and who ultimately pays for such duplication.

I have no doubt that I will not get an answer from either… or perhaps they will duplicate it?
