Sleeping with Onions… who would have thought it?
30 Aug 2018
Dear LPG
I was lucky to receive a tablet for my last birthday, I would never have bought one for myself and I will agree that they are not for everyone, but I am addicted to doing a bit of research each night.
I tend to get caught up on those short bits of video on YouTube and found some interesting information about detoxifying one’s blood using an onion.
I am often a bit suspicious of odd things that I learn from the internet but I have had a bit of a read up on this. The idea is that you wear socks when sleeping at night and insert a slice of organic onion so that the slice remains in contact with the soul of each foot. Apparently this was something that 16th century Brits used to do to keep the plague at bay and, as I eat onions nearly every day because I cook with them I think that the worst that could happen is that I end up with smelly feet.
I have heard about onions’ power to neutralise smells in the past. I once had a tenant who smoked in her room and thought I knew what was going on and asked her to stop. She obviously did not because I was a landlady who always observed the privacy of my tenants. But when she left I cannot begin to describe the smell of smoke that was left in the room. I remember reopening the windows every day for a week without improvement. My friend advised me to cut an onion in half and leave it in the room. I have to report that the smell disappeared within three days.
I have read that the sleeping onion thing can be really beneficial when it comes to getting rid of colds and, as odd as it may seem, in the winter of 2018 I will give it a try. After all, I already eat onions nearly every day without any side effects and after the awful colds and flu that so many of my friends suffered last year, in spite of the flu jab. It can’t do any harm.
