Keeping it local.

Dear LPG,
I have read so many little stories with happy endings on the LPG website and I want to add mine to the list of good news.
About three months ago I became the proud owner of a desk top computer. It was given to me by my grandson who told me that it had a little life in it even though he felt the need to ‘upgrade’ (he tells me that upgrading is getting a new one). He built it himself about five years ago and so it was a unique bit of kit and I felt quite proud to be the owner of such an inimitable possession. He told me that the computer would be a bit slow but I told him that I was getting quite slow myself and so I thought that the computer and I would suit each other perfectly.
My grandson has been quite patient with me and I have learned a few things. I have my own email address now and he has taught me all about using Google. In fact my new device may have been old to him but it was perfect for me until I discovered one little problem. I fell in love with You Tube and then discovered that it would be a lot better if I could hear what was happening. (He had decided that his speakers were worth keeping and that resulted in my computer being ‘dumb’)
But there is always a solution and it was a website called ‘Next door’. This is a site which has turned the idea of the World Wide Web on its head because it allows people to contact people who are very local to them. People leave really varied messages there. In the same way that LPG posts really varied subjects each day. I have seen messages about lost cats, groups that need help, appeals for gardeners, carpenters and all sorts of other tradesmen, issues that surround local streets or shops, things that they want to sell or give away and lots more.
My grandson is a registered member of this free website and put out an appeal for some speakers. Before the end of the day he was offered two sets which were local enough for him to collect.
I will get a new computer when this one finally packs up but I am learning all the time and I can hear now too!
I hope that LPG will be able to steer you to the site in case you have your own local issue to post.
