The balls of your feet take on a whole new meaning.

02 Jan 2019

Dear LPG

I was recently given a present which I thought was designed to make my dog happier than me.

My grandson bought me a set of balls.  There were five in all, two smooth ones and three spikey ones.  Perhaps you can imagine my reaction.  I did not want to appear ungrateful but while I graciously said ’Thank you’ I have to admit that I was thinking ‘Why would the dog need so many balls’.

The young man then explained that they were not for my dog (although he would be happy for my pet to share them), they are really good for exercising with.

He then showed me a video, which had a really simple exercise that can be done with the help of the ‘exercise balls’, that he had brought for me and I have to say that my feet are better for using them.

Over the past few months I have found that I have a little more movement in my feet and legs, and although many videos show the exercises done by much younger people while they stand, I have found that they are quite effective if you perform them holding onto something to keep you steady or even while sitting and watching telly (which is how I do them).

I started with the smooth ones but have now graduated to the spikey balls although I find that both have their advantages and, just for the record,  I have bought my dog his own set of balls.

LPG has found quite a lot of information about exercising many parts of the body with massage balls and some advice.  If you want to try this exercise it is suggested that if you have any foot problems you check with your GP before having a go, and please remember that with all exercise you need to know your limitations and not overdo it.
