A bit of military help when you really need it.

Dear LPG
My problem is being unable to walk more than 25 yards without severe leg pane due to blocked arteries. It was suggested as an ex Royal Air Force serviceman I might approach their Benevolent Fund to see if they could help. A friend mentioned that they might be able to supply a power scooter, on loan, to help me to keep mobility.
I did get in touch and I was visited by an occupational therapist who addressed my needs for a scooter to suit my size, weight and capability to cope.
They do go through your income and expenditure situation with you to make sure you haven’t got an offshore bank account with sufficient funds to buy your own scooter!!! (They are a charity after all and must justify the cost of the scooter.) I am now the proud possessor of a new scooter thanks to the kindness of the RAFBF.
So if you’re in Catford and something whizzes past you, it won’t be ‘superman’; it’s probably me, but don’t worry, I have insurance too!!!
If you feel in need of their help in any way remember as an ex-serviceman, or woman, they want to hear from you
They can be contacted at the following addresses.

CS has offered us an example of the work that the Royal Air Force charity do and how they can help their ex-servicemen, and LPG has also found the details of the organisations that support the other British armed forces.
