Do-it-yourself eye tests?

Dear LPG,
Did you know that we missed National Eye Health week? I found this information on the internet when I was browsing recently, which led me to look up more on the subject of eyes and testing them and I found some interesting information that I just had to share.
Firstly, I was quite surprised to find out that more than a few high street shops offer eye test home visits for people who cannot get to them. I know that this has been common practice where people live in places like care homes and similar places, but now, they are available for anyone who really cannot get to an optician. I have asked LPG to add some information at the end of my message.
I then found something even more interesting, and from what I can see most of the relating information appears to be American and aimed at younger people at the moment. There are quite a few websites offering do-it-yourself online eye tests.
I think it is better to get an expert to check your eyes, if for no other reason than from what I read in your blog dated July 3rd 2018 (►►►) but I did have a go at a couple of these and wanted to share what they have to offer for those who are interested.
I suppose that the main message that I am reminding readers of is the importance of getting an eye check, but having a go at some of these online tests could reinforce your need to go to an optician if you have not done so recently, and I would advise that, if you have not read the LPG news post I keep referring to, you should. It might just convince you.-

As promised, SW has shared the websites and a tutorial about how to test your own eyes, although we are with the writer on this, when it comes to the importance of having a professional do it for you. For people over the age of 60 it is a free service even if you need to have the optician visit you.
…and we have also found one of the sites where one can find a practitioner who will make a home visit if necessary.
