Dear LPG

I wonder if any other car owner has seen the advert on TV where a young lady informs us that there are more important aspects of selling an older car than how much you are going to get paid for it.  I always insure with the same company but, out of interest, this year I took the time to put my registration number on line to see how much they thought my car was worth.  I was very disappointed at the amount shown in spite of its age.

I am one of those people who have never seen the need to get a new car every two years, even though I suppose I could have afforded to.  To me my car is as prized as a cherished pet, in as much as I bought it new about 16 years ago and we have travelled a long way together. 

I have a relative who has the same make of car, although his one was bought second hand when it was about 5 years old, but it is the same age as mine.  I also have to say that it started out with a much higher specification.  It is the GT Sports version which is owned by a true enthusiast who has spent a lot of time lovingly modifying it over the years.  

We got into the subject of car insurance and valuation recently, and he told me that he has produced proof of all the upgrades he has had done to improve the car over the years and now insures his car with a company which offers Agreed Value Insurance so if, God forbid, his prize possession does end up as the subject of an insurance claim he will be offered compensation which is very different to the amount shown than when we put his registration number online.

So just in case you are one of those devoted retirees who have dedicated a lot of the extra time that retirement has allowed to beautifying your car extensively, and you have not heard of agreed car insurance, I thought it would be good to get LPG to mention the advantages.
