Meditate and stay healthy

06 Mar 2019

Dear LPG

Here is something that might be worth pursuing this New Year.

We all know that exercise can help us stay healthy. Physical activity keeps us strong and mental exercise can be good for our mind. However, many of us find it difficult to perform some movements. Let’s face it: our muscles and joints are not as strong as they used to be. But there are other things that we can do to age gracefully; meditation is one of them.

Some say that this practice is said to slow down the progression of Alzheimer’s, one of the most prevalent illnesses among the elderly? It has been shown that a combination of mediation and breathing exercises can help decline the development of dementia-related diseases and improve our memory. It also has the ability to sharpen our mental alertness and it is useful to have a sharp, focused mind. It can reduce our stress and anxiety levels and keeps negative emotions under control. Meditation teaches us that we can observe our emotions without being compelled to react to them.

It can help us for something totally different too: it can be a way to enhance our digestion! The deep breathing that we take during meditation improves circulation and increases oxygen levels in blood, which may afford relief from digestive issues.
