A double helping of leg common-sense

21 Mar 2019

Dear LPG,

I have a message for all the ladies today and perhaps the Scottish gentlemen who make up the number of our LPG readership.

As we become older, we become more and more accustomed to visiting hospital, and it is also inevitable that many of us have problems with our walking equipment; our legs and feet.  These problems often result in the need for multiple scans and treatments which can be time consuming, but there is one thing that we can do to make the appointments slightly less complicated and that is to wear a skirt.

If you go in trousers it is a much more slow and difficult task to get yourself ready for the treatment to come and there is also the embarrassment of needing more time to shuffle around behind a screen while the nurse or technician has to wait for you.  Wearing a skirt sometimes will result in there being no need to part with anything but shoes and stockings or socks.

The last time I needed to attend a clinic the nurse went to a lot of trouble to thank me for my thoughtfulness because, sometimes nearly half of a consultation involving legs is directly affected by the amount of time it takes to disrobe.

We are in the winter at the moment, and that is always a time to wrap up warm ,  but for those of us who have an appointment booked well into the spring, when deciding what to wear make this one of the considerations you take into account.

As the summer brings warmer weather, we should also mention shorts for those gentlemen who, though pensioners, want to  shorten their appointments.
