Making breakfast a meal worth eating….
15 Sep 2019
Dear LPG,
I used to be one of those ‘up and at em’ types but 14 years of retirement has gradually changed me into a ‘reluctant to leave the sheets’ person, and the saddest part is I have only just noticed. I have friends of similar age who tell me the same and it is as if I have only just observed what not having to commute has done to me although I think my aches and pains have something to do with it too.
Then when I finally drag myself out of bed and succeed in making myself look like the sort of person I would like to meet, there is breakfast. They say that you should attack this meal as if you are a king and work on getting poorer during the day but so many of us miss it. I have read that not eating it leads to weight gain and now that I am on the cusp of diabetes, according to my doctor, I am also put off by the amount of quick breakfast options that rely on sugar to be anywhere near vaguely appealing (Well to me anyway). I can’t help but think that these thoughts help to keep me snuggled up in bed more readily these days too.
I have decided that the prospect of a cup of tea and a bit of toast is not doing it for me so, for my sake and the sake of all the other retirees throughout LPG internet world, I have looked up a few more interesting things to get your teeth into once you have put them in.
I found it interesting that if you look up breakfasts for the elderly a lot of the usual culinary morning offerings pop up, and though I don’t have an aversion to them they are not that interesting. You tube however, have a lot of younger people offering some different ideas with a few more unlikely breakfast ingredients, and while porridge oats are wonderful on a cold winters morning, now that summer is with us again, I have found that there is a lot to be said for having a go at negotiating morning repasts that include more fruit and seeds, although I still reserve the right to cheat and have a very unhealthy Sunday morning fry-up.
Am I getting up earlier these days? I am not sure that I can say that I am, but breakfast is more fun…
