Painkiller with a kick…

18 Aug 2019

Dear LPG,

Since I have retired, I have kept my personal promise to see a few parts of the world that could be thought of as  ‘off the beaten track’.   In my attempt to keep the momentum going my family and I decided to see what the British Virgin Islands were like for a week or two, and I have to say that it is a place to remember.

I have always been one of those holiday-makers who want to do more than sunbathe from sun-up till sun-down and while we were there, we decided on a trip to the top of Mount Sage.   The only real way to do this is by bus if you want to get the full force of the experience and we were up for that.

The bus was little more than a converted lorry and the suspension was not quite what my family and I are used to with the result that, when I got to the other end of the trip, not only had I seen the really impressive sights that the top of the mountain had to offer.  My back was really the worse for its rickety encounter with the make-shift bus, and the rocky mountain road, had left me feeling the full force of the effort made in my attempt to get there.

After all that exertion the obvious thing to do was find a seat that was not going to bounce about, and the first one on offer was in a bar.  We were hot anyway so a drink was the natural progression from that point but of course, there were many drinks that I had never heard of on the menu.  While making my choice I noticed something called a “Painkiller”, and I thought of my back when I plumped for one of those.

When it arrived I have to say that it truly hit the spot, and my back, and I don’t know if there was a placebo effect or it really works but the cocktail of coconut cream and rum was a true remedy for my affliction.   I have to say that I am fairly lucky because I don’t often have real back problems but perhaps that is why my holiday affliction felt seriously debilitating until the “Painkiller”.

Since coming home I have tried to recreate it with varying success.  I have tried to concoct it using the power of YouTube and in case it works for anyone else I would like to share the recipe.

Cheers…

GM offered a little information about his new-found back relief cocktail…
