My attempt to inspire positivity

05 Nov 2019

Dear LPG readers,

It is bonfire night again and that means that the clocks have just gone back for the winter and the noise outside always reminds me just how lonely and vulnerable we can feel.

I do enjoy writing poetry and I have asked LPG if they would post this so that I can have my day of fame on the website. I found myself penning this when thinking about the nights which are now drawing in and all the other reasons that we so often use to start thinking really depressing thoughts, and I hope it will lift a spirit or two…

Looking at the Light

Don’t look at the darkness

Around you

Look at the light

Finding fault in others

Reveals the fault

That lies within you

Look at the light

And see the hidden goodness

In the world

The tender touch

Of the nurse

Holding your hand after surgery

Reassuring and compassionate

The bus driver that waited

For you

As you raced for the bus

See how compassion flows

When disaster strikes

Look for the light

Don’t compound the misery

By bitterness and anger

Looking at grey skies

Remind yourself

The sun is shining behind them

Look at the light

Don’t let the darkness

Overcome you

If you can’t see the sun

See the rainbow

After the storm

And know it is a promise of the sun

For brighter things

To come
