How tired is your electric blanket?

01 Dec 2019

Dear LPG,

There is no mistake.  Summer left us during the last week of August and, while it is not yet freezing, we can all feel the difference in temperature.

As usual it is the evenings and mornings where we are really aware of the differences and for those that feel the cold, this is about the time when we struggle to the back of that cupboard where we keep that old winter faithful, the electric blanket.

It is really easy to just put it back on the bed and plug it in, but before you do please take the time to think about the fact that it has not been used for a year, it has been folded up in that cupboard all summer and getting it checked is a good idea.

I know that LPG has featured posts about this subject in past years but I just wanted to bring this issue to the fore again as the weather begins to change.

I remember when the Fire brigade offered a blanket checking service but as with everything else all such services have been taken away, so can I suggest that perhaps an electrician is the way to go.

I have found some links to the precautions we should be taking to be sure that existing blankets are still serviceable and a little information about the signs of fatigue that we need to look for.
