Classier, not pricier budgeting…

20 Feb 2020

Dear LPG,

I want to repeat a little age-old news for the letter-writers amongst us…

I am not exactly a stamp collector but I do have a network of friends and family, parts of which are now far-flung across this green and pleasant land of ours.  I am sure that I am not the only person with more than a few years behind them, that will be able to say this.

Many of those friends are contactable on the telephone and I have to admit that I appreciate the fact that many telephone companies offer both home and mobile contracts that allow us to make one prepayment each month for all our calls, no matter how many there are, but in spite of all that I am part of a dwindling breed of letter-writers and, even though I tend to type them on the computer and print them before posting these days, sitting down with a cup of tea and a letter from a friend is still as important to me as checking out my latest emails, while birthday and Christmas cards that you can display on the side board remind me of how loved I am, in spite of all the electronic ways of sending them these days.

We are now just over two weeks away from the budget when we know that, whatever else is likely to rise, the price of a postage stamp is nearly guaranteed to be on the up.  So I would just like to remind LPG readers that, with two weeks left before this year’s big day, now is the time to stock up on one of the few commodities that will not force the budget to affect the pound in your pocket.

Did you know that if you buy stamps that show either 1st or 2nd class as their value, you will still be able to use them after the budget?  The fact is that ‘classy’ stamps are ageless.  No matter how long ago you bought them, and how cheap they were at the time, one will still carry your letter to its destination.

So letter-writers can I remind you that, with two weeks to go, before yet another set of price rises, it has to be worth getting down to the post office and investing in some of the classier stamps before classier becomes synonymous with pricier!

TG, Lee

TG found some online information, most of which, was produced in preparation for last year’s budget, but as TG points out this rule remains the same from year to year…
