Vegan ways to ‘Shrove’ it up on Tuesday
25 Feb 2020
Dear LPG readers,
I wrote to LPG last pancake day because I thought I had found some of the most unusual pancakes that the world has to offer, but a year has gone by since then and although the word has been around for a while now, the world seems to have gone more vegan than ever.
But this year I have noticed that all the big food chains, supermarkets and fast food outlets, are busy advertising their meat free offerings these days? I bet that nearly every reader has a grandson, granddaughter, niece, nephew or friend who has decided that this is the way to go too.
It just so happens that my granddaughter is planning to visit later today which has left me working on what I can offer without offending her new way of life. A pancake only has three ingredients, milk, flour and eggs; and there lies the problem…
Vegans don’t eat eggs so what was I to do? You see… Today also happens to be pancake day, and this left me asking for Google’s help. I have to say that they did not disappoint and having found a few alternatives, I hope that LPG readers will take them on board.
I am a giver-up of something for lent, and also admit to being one of those people who feels that a period of restrained intake should be preceded with a good feast. The irony is that I usually give up meat so I think that, as my curiosity about what some of these taste like continues I could eat a few more pancakes during the next 40 days and nights without violating my Lenten vow of self-denial.
I hope that LPG will indulge me again this pancake day by sharing yet a few more Shrove Tuesday ideas for readers to try.
