Life’s too short; let’s celebrate…

07 Jul 2020

Dear LPG,

I hope that you posted the first of two messages that I offered in preparation for what I want to say today.

There are so many different days of celebration and many have grown beyond being national days to take on Global status, even though most people will miss the fact that there is something to be celebrated.  When you learn of some of these they leave you rolling your eyes but today I think that I have found something that nearly all of us, young or old, should be celebrating, if not acknowledging; today is Global forgiveness day.

I defy anyone to get to adulthood without being hard done by at some point in their lives and human nature often dictates that we hold that grudge.

I am not young, but someone older and much more prudent than I once offered me the words of wisdom that I would like to offer your readers today. We were in the middle of a conversation about things that make us angry when she verbalised the following thoughts.  She said…

Once a young fellow teasingly asked a keen salesman what it would cost to purchase a cup of hatred.  The salesman answered as follows.

Oh, surely you couldn’t afford it son.  First you will have to swap your inner peace for unsurmountable worry, which will eat up your heart.  You will be deeply bitter every time you see the person who is the object of your hatred, and even thinking about the person or thing you hate will fill you with so much animosity that it will result in your becoming weak and tired, especially if you see the one you hate looking happy and content.

You might even feel an act of revenge is needed, and if you decide to act on that feeling the consequences may well force you to show those around you a glimpse of your dark side, even though your revenge might purge your sense of hatred, and you will probably find enforced feelings of remorse and misery left in its place.  One way or the other, at the end of each day you will end up feeling wretched and miserable for a very long time.

Fate has a way of dealing with people who have done wrong in much worse ways than any mere mortal could ever think of, and too many people expend too much money, time and energy on hating people.

So think before you buy!
