Versed thoughts (chapter 23): Observations

20 Nov 2020

Dear LPG,

I wrote this poem after being troubled by all the news about how Covid-19 was affecting our young people.   It is a lockdown poem triggered by all the information which pointed to the differences reported and is my way of contrasting the fortunate children and children who are deprived.  We know, as a result of much research, that children from disadvantaged families live in crowded homes, are members of big families, and often wake up and go to bed hungry.

In recognition of today’s significance, and the fact that there is so much diversity in the circumstances of children across the world which has be compounded by this virus I hope that my writings add another dimension to the acknowledgment of the day….

Observations

The sun rises

Long day ahead

Home lessons

Play time

Fun with friends

The sun rises

Another day

Nothing to do

Screams next door

I’m hungry.

The sun sets

Bath, then story

Comfy bed

Favourite toys

Sleep soon.

The sun sets

Top bunk

Babies below

Still hungry

Can’t sleep

So you have a date for this poem

I would like to wish all today’s children a happy children’s day, wherever they are in the world …
