Dear LPG,

I really enjoy reading the letters that you post each day on the LPG website and have to say that it is where I learned all about YouTube.  I really value the links that you find that relate to some of the diverse subjects, and value being able to just click rather than having to route around looking for the related websites myself.   I think that the links that are often found at the bottom of many of the articles that you post really help because they save the reader a lot of the time that they would otherwise have to spend finding that information. I particularly like the videos and the way that one leads to another, but there is one thing that I don’t like…

…and that is the adverts that we are all forced to watch before we get to the content that we really want to see.  I agree that some of them are interesting but if that is the case and you click, it is so often easy to completely lose the thread of what you were planning to learn in the first place, and if it is of no interest to you, you just have to wait it out.

I was browsing the other day and I found that there are a few sets of instructions that hold the secret to not having to be annoyed by them if you use Google Chrome as your web browser, (one of the programmes that allows you to get to the internet in the first place).

There are a few alternatives, and I am sure that the instructions might confuse a few, but if the adverts truly annoy you it is worth checking out. I found a piece of software called AdBlock and opted for that option.  I cannot tell you what a difference it has made.

I have to say that it all looks really simple to download, and it is, depending on just how internet savvy you are, but it may just be the three minutes that you can share with the next visitor you have at home who knows a little bit more about such things then you, and who can help you get past the inconvenience of being annoyed by them every time you want to see a video.

There is one more thing that you should know. If you do opt for AdBlock you can use it for free but everything costs somebody money, and while the download is free, their team, who need to be paid and depend on the advert revenue to keep the service going, do offer a few optional payment possibilities.  The one thing that many do not understand about the internet is that all the websites we access are free because they get paid for by the advertisers who provide the afore mentioned and very annoying adverts and, if too many of us opt not to see them, I suspect that either the internet will become more expensive for the viewers or many of the free sites will stop being free.

As in all aspects of life, it’s all a question of time/money balance…
