The need to boost your booster…
08 May 2021
Dear LPG,
At my age, I know that I have left it a bit late, but yesterday I went for my second Covid-19 jab, and by now all of us older people know the routine. You have the first one and then you have the second and you are good to go. My thinking was that I just have to give it a couple of weeks and then I would be able to get out again, while taking due care, but in the secure knowledge that I was all but immune to the whole thing; but not so…
Well that is what I thought but, as I left the vaccination centre yesterday I asked about the effect of this booster jab only to be told that jab number two gives you about 80% protection some two weeks after you have had it, but that is not the booster. We will all need a booster, yet another jab, about twelve weeks after that.
I am not sure how many other readers thought that the second jab was the booster jab, but just in case you thought this to be the case, I felt that I should let LPG readers know that there is more to come.
The person I asked the questions at the vaccination centre to told me that we should expect the whole process to be repeated in about 12 weeks’ time; the text or letter inviting you to have another jab etc.
I returned home and decided that a little more reading on the subject might be a good thing, although I have to say that the internet has offered some information which has managed to confuse me a little more. But I have learnt that however you look at it, suffice to say that these jabs are not 100% effective and having had them is not an invitation to throw away your face mask or ignore your bubbles and distancing.
It appears that Covid-19 continues to offer mixed messages or I have not been listening properly, but I don’t think that I am the only person who is again confused about the whole thing.
So, it appears that the whole jab programme is a protection racket which does not completely guarantee immunity, we need to still be careful and jab number three is well on the way…
All things considered, I have to say that I am still as mixed up as ever…
