What a deep intake or two of breath might just be able to do for you…

Dear LPG,

Now that I am in my late seventies, I have conceded that I am getting older. When you are younger it is so simple to listen to an older person who more regularly says that they are breathless after walking a short distance and take it with a pinch of salt, but I am now beginning to understand what they meant.

I am not in any danger of keeling over, but I can feel the difference after doing some of the things that involve a bit of effort and that leave me with that winded feeling.  It occurred to me to look and see what Google had to offer on the subject and I was quite surprised.

According to the internet, getting more air into your body can relax you, help to increase your memory, improve your posture, help digestion and goes some way to restoring and quality of ageing tissue and that sounded worth pursuing.   I found quite a few exercises and a way to find out if your lung capacity can be improved and, having found all these bits of information I thought it only fair to pass them on to the LPG reading public.

Another thing I found positive is that most of these exercises don’t take long to do, so I am going to have a go and would like to offer all readers the opportunity to join me.  I hope that some readers will click on some of the links and, whichever one you choose, get some benefit out of it.

RO, Penge.

LPG would, as always, suggest caution on two fronts when it comes to any exercise.    We firstly suggest that you try to have someone with you the first few times you try them, and secondly, we would like to remind readers of the advantages of asking your GP before you get started.

RO suggests that you measure your lung capacity before you start…
