A day to promote niceness…
01 Jun 2021
Dear LPG,
I know that many people think it really annoying to have so many themes for each and every day of the year but, since I started looking at LPG’s pages, I have learned about so many of them as so many of your writers feature some of the really obscure ones.
There are some which make your eyes roll when you learn about them while others really get you thinking and yet others can put a bit of a dampener on the day. I have to admit that being a pensioner who lives alone was quite acceptable for me when every day presented me with somewhere to go or someone to meet, but we have now become used to spending so much time enjoying our own company that we have had to find other distractions to fill our days.
If LPG posts this message on the day I have asked them to, one of the celebrations that I particularly like the idea of will be a feature. Apart from also being National Heimlich Manoeuvre Day, National Go Barefoot Day and National Nail Polish Day, I think that the idea of having a National Say Something Nice Day really appeals to me the most.
Today will be the 14th celebration of this national day, which was established in North Charleston, South Carolina, USA and, while I think that the idea of finding at least one thing positive to share with people at least once a year cannot be a bad thing, perpetuating the practice daily would undoubtedly be better.
If anything could put the whole nation in a negative mood, I think we have experienced it over the past 18 months so I hope that at least some of today’s readers will have been encouraged in good time to embrace this sentiment of the day and say at least one positive thing. While there can never be too much positivity, I think that we are still living through a particularly challenging era that will become history sooner or later but we all need a bit of positivity at this point in time.
The more positivity we can spread the better, but with the relatively negative days that we are living through, finding positive things to say can be quite challenging sometimes, particularly when we are limited to being forced to do so little communication face to face. with this in mind, I took a look on line and found a few suggestions.
We all know how special it is to hear a nice comment or even a compliment which lifts the hearer’s day and I also know that having the presence of mind to produce one at the optimum time does not come easily for all. So, in my effort to help at least some of the world’s seniors observe this National day in the spirit in which it was intended, I have found a few suggestions…
