Dear Readers,

It occurs to me that telling stories is really important as we get older and so many of us don’t tell them widely enough.  We tell our children or a few friends but so many stories are lost and missed because they are not passed on.

Many books, plays and films are based on stories, versions of which make the pages, theatres or cinema screens because of one little aspect that was told or experienced by the author, playwright or script writer.

We, and I feel that I can use that word here because this is the Pensioners’ gazette website, are perhaps the most equipped members of society to tell those stories; the ones we have heard and the ones we have been part of.  We are much more likely to be past the stage of telling them as a means to avoid blame or show superiority and we have the advantage of having had more years than any other story-tellers to hone our art.

It is an art that has been with us for many years as the bible, history books and fairy stories all attest to.  Many grandmas and grandpas do it to provide a learning curve for the younger members of their families while others use them to amuse their friends. 

This is also LPG’s main aim.  We have spent over 30 years making sure that our pensioners’ stories, and all other ideas that are offered can be kept alive for posterity. 

So on this World Storytelling Day, we would like to remind readers that we would love them to become our ‘writers’ even though writing is not the most important part of any contribution.

If you have a funny story to tell, a story with a moral, a story of an experience that will teach fellow readers about something that they should or should not be wary of, or a story that offers a bit of history that needs to not be lost, we would like to write it down for you and let it loose on the internet and keep it alive there for many years to come.

All the stories we post remain anonymous unless the writers want to be named and in spite of the fact that many of the writers would not know where to begin when it comes to writing something for the internet and sending it to us, we are happy to do all that and make sure that you are absolutely happy with the way it is written before it is posted.
