Dear LPG,

Sometimes when I think about my life, I have one of those ‘if only’ sessions. I know that we are not supposed to, but I bet that somewhere along the line nearly everyone has had a little think about who they would choose to be if they could swap with anyone else in the world, don’t they?

I think that as I have become an older lady and also I have to put a lot of the blame on the pandemic, I spend so much time on the phone to friends that we sometimes run out of  sensible conversation topics and,  for want of something else to talk about one day recently,  one of my friends and I broached the subject and asked each other this very question.  After a bit of thought, I decided that it would be fun to be one of the richest women in the world if I really had the choice, I can see myself having lived a life where I could have travelled the world and I was not worried about where the money for the next electricity bill was coming from.

The first person that fitted that bill for me was the Queen.  I think that I would have enjoyed having people to do  all the not nice things for me, and being in the limelight all the time would have been fun.  When I really thought about it, I quite like being female and  nearly all the other  really rich people I could think of were men who have had to work as hard as I have to become anywhere near as financially successful,  I did all the work but my financial returns have been relatively  modest to say the least.

To my mind, our Monarch has all the advantages and, more or less, has the power to do anything she likes when she is off duty.  That sort of life would have suited me to a tee, or so I thought, until I took a look on line and learned a bit about what she can and cannot do.  It was a bit of an eye opener and another one is that much of the information I found there on the subject was written by Americans, which I can only take as evidence that they are far more interested in our Royals than we are.

I know that Queen Elisabeth II is the only person that does not need a passport or driver’s license, she technically cannot be arrested or put in prison because that would have to be ‘at her own pleasure’.  But on the other hand she is not allowed to express her political opinion or put herself up for election, she rarely signs her autograph and never had the freedom to choose the names of her children.   She rarely carries money (and doesn’t have to pay taxes), but thanks to the tax payers of the UK, she has quite a lot of it and I read on line that she even has  a personal ATM at  home.  She also has a song written especially all about her and two birthdays but I bet neither is much fun present –wise.  After all, what does the lady who has everything really need.

Having watched all the bits of information I have asked LPG to add to my message, I have decided that I will stick with the life that I have been given. But in case you feel like a bit of a change any time soon, I suggest you don’t choose her to change with…
