Thoughts of waking up early in the morning while I could not sleep…
14 Dec 2021
Dear LPG,
I was lying in bed earlier this morning, thinking about how many aspects of life often turn around as we get older. I remember when getting to sleep was no problem for me because working and looking after little ones all day left me so tired that as soon as my head hit the pillow I was well and truly ready for the land of nod. But, now that I have no reason to stay awake and I can pleas myself when it comes to the time I wake up, I spend my time just lying there thinking about all sorts, and I had an interesting one very early this morning that I feel I should share.
Statistics tell us that SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) seriously affects about 3% of the British public and when I looked it up, I found out that it is the workers of the world that seem to suffer the most, with young children also feeling the effects.
It leaves some depressed and others tired, all because of the lack of natural light during the winter months. In recent years there are SAD lights around designed to provide that naturally bright light.
I do not suffer but I bought a couple of SAD standard lamps, because of the poor light from energy saving light bulbs. I find that these so called SAD lights give off the kind of light that my eyes used to enjoy during all those years before the old bulbs were sort of confiscated from us.
I am hoping that LPG can get this message out with as much notice as possible just in case there are a few readers out there who have relatives that have difficulty getting up in the mornings, because there is now a new variation on the SAD light theme which is called the SAD wake up light. This is designed to go by your bed and create the sort of ‘twilight to day light’ feel of summer thus allowing a more normal wake up ambiance for those who find it harsh to wake up in the dark. It could be the perfect Christmas present for a sufferer you cannot find any other present for although they are not cheap and, having watched how they work, I think you would have to be young to understand how to set one up.
I have found a bit more information for any readers who are interested…

WD has found us a bit of information about SAD for those who have never come across it before...
