Dear LPG,

Did you know that today officially marks the beginning of a year of significance for Lewisham locals of all ages?  The Borough of Lewisham has succeeded in being named the London Borough of Culture 2022, and so our cultural journey officially starts here.

I suspect that many people who are learning about this for the first time may not be particularly inspired and, after the last couple of years, we are all entitled to be a bit weary of life in general, no matter where we live.  The pandemic has taught far too many of us to focus on the more negative side of life and take where we live for granted; often in a relatively unenthusiastic way.

But reading a little further and thinking about what the council has planned, must help us think about all the things that each and every one of us have to celebrate. 

You just have to look at some of the many celebratory days that are there to be acknowledged each year.  There are so many that there aren’t enough days to go around.  LPG would like to remind readers of the many positive aspects of life that we need to appreciate.  As we get older we sometimes forget to take a look at our back-stories and all those really positive incidents that happen and are so quickly forgotten as we move from one situation to another throughout our lives.

This is a website for everyone although it is particularly aimed at the older members of our world society and there can be no way that all those older people can have lived this long without some memories and successes worth celebrating, so LPG would like to invite our readers to share, relive and celebrate them one more time.

We at LPG would like to add a little contribution to the festivities by being able to publish more of our readers’ cultural stories and memories but, as ever, we can only do that with your continued help.  Get in touch by phone, post or electronically and let us share those memories that you have been proud to have lived through, and have been part of, be they about personal achievement or being part of something bigger; whether they had a Lewisham back-drop or not.  As ever, we will do the writing and share them as anonymously as our writers want us to. 

The year has just begun and if you are looking for a resolution to pursue or something different to do to start it off, we cannot wait to hear from you.
