Don’t abstain again this New Year, have a go at a little one…
01 Jan 2022
Dear LPG,
This is the beginning of another new year and I suspect it will be different to what we all expected, but sadly much more similar to last year than we thought it would have been too.
Different because, when we were wondering what life would be like this time last year, so many of us thought that this would be a more social new year, but I am writing three weeks in advance of New Year’s Day 2022 and I suspect that, in the light of one of the latest of the new phrases that has been introduced into our world vocabulary lately, (the Omicron Variant) there will have been less parties and more early nights than we would have expected last night. So we all find ourselves being apprehensive when we think of what this year holds, yet again.
That is the big picture and, although it is a lot for us all to deal with, it perfectly reflects the reason that so many of us decide not to bother with new year’s resolutions in the first place.
Whether we are looking at the big picture or our own personal version, the big problem is that we cannot predict the future, so those who have decided not to resolve to do something at least a little differently this year, are making sure that they cannot fail to get it right.
But what is life without a plan? With a couple of extra hours this morning perhaps it is not too late to think of some little thing that it would be nice to be able to say you have achieved by the end of this year and, even if it has to be repeated because of a previous year’s failed attempt, that has to be better than not having a go at all.
I suspect that the lack of 2022 New Year’s Eve Parties and celebrations might have left us all with more of New Year’s Day to have a think about what we would like to change about the world and ourselves (albeit just a little) by the time we get to the beginning of 2023.
Just in case you have still not been motivated yet, I have found a few lists of achievable resolutions to inspire…
… and I wish everyone a positive and Happy New Year…
