Advanced warning for all those who have been fooled in the past…

31 Mar 2022

Dear LPG,

I want to offer a two-pronged message today so that all readers are prepared for tomorrow in more ways than one.

If you are anything like me, now that Christmas and the New Year are over for another winter, you have slipped back into ‘Retired persons’ mode again.  I have talked about this with a few friends and they agree that, unless we reach a day when we need to go to the doctors or the dentist, each day is very much the same.  After the anticipation of those important mid-winter holidays, it is easy for us who don’t have to work anymore to wake up each morning hardly remembering what day it is.  The days merge into weeks of mornings when we do the same things day after day; hardly knowing which day of the week it is let alone what is special about the day.   No wonder this is called the most depressing time of the year by so many.

Am I describing your general outlook on life at this time of the year? If so I feel the need to remind you that spring is well on its way and just in case you have forgotten, tomorrow is April Fool’s Day.

If you know someone who needs cheering up but can’t think of a prank to pull I thought I would offer some online suggestions that might work, and I have also asked LPG to print my message a day early so that you have time to get prepared.

Even if you can’t get out, with a little help a telephone prank might be fun.  Order a friend something that will make them smile and send it with an April fool’s message, or telephone them and tell them about a new impressive but invented person who will be joining your lunch club next week.

I found a few lists including one designed for work colleagues who want to join in and some of the pranks can easily be changed just a little to fool us oldies.

So back to the two reasons for my message…

Reason 1,

I hope that you will find an idea to make one person smile on the day.

And

Reason 2,

Forewarned is forearmed; don’t get fooled yourself!
