Dear LPG, 

I get the feeling that readers of these pages have more in common than the number of years that they have been around.  We have a wealth of experience and learning; we have been around long enough to be part of more world events than most and I am sure that every pensioner has taken on many different roles during their lives and times.

The world of school, work and young children have gradually become different as we look at the younger people around us grappling with all those situations that we can remember in our distant pasts.  

A couple of things that we gain though is the time to think and remember all the people that have popped into and often out of our lives as we have progressed through it ourselves, and with all that thinking time we have more time to allow them to come to the fore.  

Have you ever found yourself looking through your old address books for one person that you were once best friends with and not being able to find their entry?  

When you think you have lost touch with someone forever, after looking through the pages of your old address book without success, it is worth remembering that you might be missing an even older address book or two that might alter your chances of finding them. 

 
The contact list in your mobile phone might throw up a clue and it is also worth checking through your email address book if you have one.  Mutual friends or work colleagues are worth revisiting and I know so many people who have changed their minds about online social media accounts, but we older people are likely to have chosen to ignore them rather than delete them.

We all have more address books these days and when you have finished ploughing through the old paper one it is worth remembering that it is not the only list of people that we need to be looking at when it comes to looking up old friends…
