Year four comes to an end, but year five starts here.

Dear LPG readers,
Today marks our fifth anniversary online and we are in our 38th year of existence, so we are taking the opportunity to give ourselves a pat on the back, although no online group can afford to get complacent these days.
Like every other organisation, charitable, corporate or otherwise, we have learnt to adapt to working more electronically but we do our best to continue to bring our readers information which Lewisham and worldwide pensioners offer and suggest that we post. While this is the case the production of the posts is still more likely to be created from the wealth of material, stories, thoughts, ideas and concepts which are offered verbally, via telephone, or in handwritten letters, and which are then converted to the data posts that you see on our pages. We are always happy to do the typing and anything else necessary to convert your thoughts to internet articles.
So, while accessing the internet version of our paper is gradually improving, and the ideas and letters offered continue to flourish, there is quite a way to go before the older members of our worldwide society become completely comfortable with sending their contributions and enquiries via email rather than a letter. We feel that this is a good thing though because while we are more than aware of the need to keep up with the times, there is so much value in talking with our readers when they telephone or just stop our editorial members in the street.
We know that it will take time, but every year there are increasing numbers of computer savvy pensioners that join our ranks and come armed with the skills needed to bridge that barrier. It is also to be noted that older pensioners are not to be outdone. Whether through necessity or curiosity we oldies are slowly getting there.
There is one more thing we need to mention. All the people involved with producing this site are also pensioners and every year the LPG editorial group experiences changes as our administration team ages, so the best anniversary present that we could receive would be a few more volunteers who have an hour or so a week to help with all aspects of administration and the production of the site.
The online aspect of our operation no longer limits the need for our volunteers to be anywhere near the Lewisham area as we mostly communicate online. This means that there are no meetings to get to or potentially lengthy and expensive train, bus or car trips to make. We still have the telephone and online service, such as Skype and WhatsApp, and they allow us to meet and talk with the added advantage of being able to see and be seen by those who make contact. So, we are always open to ideas and input from whichever part of the world they originate.
Please use our contact page so that we can introduce ourselves.
