Versed thoughts (chapter 47): Happy Father’s Day to my father…

19 Jun 2022

Dear LPG,

I wrote this poem a little while ago but on this Father’s Day I would like to share it with LPG Readers.

I have no doubt that, for the older reader, the meaning of Father’s Day has changed over the years.  When young, we were most likely to have not heard of the celebration which only became official in 1972.  Most of the male readers of this page will have encountered it as a father receiving their children’s’ appreciation rather than a child with a day dedicated to their paternal parent.

But the tables are now turned by the time we get to an age where LPG might be of interest, and this year, my wish is that there might be a grown-up son or daughter remembering to get every LPG reader that qualifies some serious recognition, while we all remember to acknowledge our own fathers as old as we are.

I hope that the words of my poem will reflect the thoughts and memories that we might have offered our dads way back when we were young…

Happy Father’s Day to my father

Homely, loving and kind is he,
The man I call MY FATHER who loves and cares for me.
Open, honest, charming is he,
He is all that a father should be.

Peaceful, forthright, jovial, fair,
Whenever I need him he’s always there.
A father indeed who never gives up,
Whose fatherly deeds have never stopped!

Giving you credit without further delay,
Saying “I love you”, on Father’s Day.
Giving the credit where credit is due,
I’m proud to have a father such as you.

Like a guardian angel, always in your place.
Taking care of my needs with a smiling face…
Homely, friendly, patient, as gentle as can be.
The man who I call… MY FATHER,
Is a gift from God… to me!
