Dear LPG, 

Isn’t it funny how everything you think you might have always wanted comes at a price?  During my lifetime I have nearly always lived in a home with a large family and when I retired that did not change.  

I think it has something to do with the financial convenience younger members of the family find by moving back in after having a go at going it alone these days and until now, there has always been one of my children, a nephew or a niece who has found it convenient and practical to live at my home. 

But the last one is about to move out and the reality of living alone is fast coming my way. 

On the one hand I cannot wait to have a home that stays the way I would like it to be with everything in its place, but I also know that there is something very special about having someone around to share the odd meal with and have the odd chat about the day’s experiences with.   

I know that it will be a challenge for me, even though there are aspects of having the house to myself that I am looking forward to.  So, in preparation I have been taking a look online to see what is suggested there.  It is interesting that a lot of the information is geared towards younger people which reminds me of the fact that more and more younger people also spend periods of time living alone and, we oldies might have tried it before, but when it becomes a way of life again, the advice offered can be adapted.  I have found a few links that I hope might inspire anyone else who finds themselves in my situation at the moment.
