Owed to all us kids who are happy to be stuck somewhere in the middle…

Dear LPG,
I notice that there are quite a few national days dedicated to children. I looked online and worked out that there is one in May, one in June and I also found that today is Universal Children’s Day.
From what I have read, today is supposed to encourage us all to celebrate Children’s rights and togetherness and awareness amongst all children, but I think they missed a bit. I noted the LPG chose another National Day of Children’s celebration to post an interesting take on the little ones (►►►). That was also a National Children’s Day but like VP who wrote that, I am also a child who is close to my parents while I am a grandmother in my own right.
I think that there are a lot of ‘children’ just like VP and me who are nearing or just past pensionable age, and it is true that we have the best of both worlds. Our obligations typically include shopping for our parents, house sitting for our children when they are at work and expecting an online parcel delivery at home, and babysitting our grandchildren, but if we were not doing all that stuff what else would we be doing?
I often have the conversation with my children where I tell them that even though they are in their forties with children of their own now, they are still my babies and I totally note what VP said about being given directives by parents and, as old as I am, feeling the need to answer, ‘Yes Mum (or Dad)’.
So, I have decided that we older kids should make all the National Children’s Day’s another excuse to celebrate the generations of our families. After all, our parents are responsible for making us life-long kids, just as we are responsible for making sure that ours will also always have no choice but to claim that status; and so, it goes on.
I am not complaining but I think that there are quite a large number of children which get missed out of all these children’s day celebrations. Every one of us is somebody’s child…
