Dear LPG,

Recently, I read that there is a national celebration that many of us older ladies may well be seriously missing out on. Did you know we are a week away from July 23rd and Gorgeous Grandma Day?

According to the internet, the only qualification you need to be a Gorgeous Grandma is to be of a certain age and female.

I am sure that anyone reading this will know that I could have only found this out from the internet, and it will be no surprise that it is a celebration that originates from America.

But it proves that good things are invented over there too.

In theory, we are approaching a day when your children, grandchildren or anyone who has benefited from your grandmotherly wisdom needs to make the time to honour your effect on their lives by making the day memorable for you.

I wanted to give a few days’ notice of the fact so that we older ladies who fit the criteria (and in my estimation, that is all of us regardless of if we can boast a child or two or not) need to do what a relatively long life teaches us to make an art of.

Perhaps today is the day to start a campaign of subtly introducing the people around you to the fact that this day exists. If LPG has saved my message for the day I have asked, you should have a week to prepare.

Failing that ladies, you have the same amount of time to prepare your special treat to remind yourselves of just how unique you are and remember that there are many other unique ‘grandmas’ you can share it with.
