Versed thoughts (chapter 60): Autumn Sceneries

04 Sep 2023

Dear LPG,

We, the English, are the nation renowned for their attention to the weather. When it gets scorching, we look forward to the cooler weather; when it is cold, we cannot wait for the summer to be with us again. We open conversations with a comment on the subject so often and pay attention to what variation we are offered on the day.

This poem was inspired by those days when the leaves on the trees remind you that summer is saying goodbye for another year and winter is coming. Whatever the weather is doing at that time, it has to be the leaves, whether on or off the trees, that give its secrets away.

AUTUMN SCENERIES

O deary me, what do I see?
A tree standing tall in front of me;
The strangest scenery that I’ve ever seen,
Brown leaves at the top,
And below that they are yellow and green.

I am staring at a bald¬ headed tree,
I am so amazed; I am filled with glee.
Just as a human being in their later years,
Going grey then bald, as the hair disappears.

Old ‘Mother Nature’ is at it again,
Providing mankind with harvest and grain.
Springtime and summertime,
Winter months and harvest time;
Here, there and everywhere,
Changes in the atmosphere.

It’s a joy to see these things,
All the changes that ‘Mother Nature’ brings;
Autumn sceneries, scents and sounds,
As each new season makes the rounds.

O deary me, what do I see?
A tree standing tall in front of me;
The strangest scenery that I’ve ever seen,
Brown leaves at the top,
And below that it is yellowish green!
