Millions of people use public transport in London every day and you are probably among them. Public transport has different fares that depend on the distance and the mode of transport, but did you know that you could save a lot of money by using the Freedom Pass?
The Freedom Pass can be used on all Transport for London buses in the Greater London Area, the Tube, Overground, Docklands Light Railway and London Trams at any time. You can also use it for travelling on most local rail services in London from Monday to Friday (from 9.30 am until 4.30 am the following morning) and weekends and public holidays at any time.
To apply for the Freedom Pass you must meet the age requirements and live in London. You should note that people born on or after 6 October 1954 would have to wait until they are 66 years old to be eligible for a Freedom Pass. How can you apply for the Freedom Pass? There are different options:
- You can apply online on via this website: http://www.londoncouncils.gov.uk/services/freedom-pass/older-persons-freedom-pass
- In case you don't have Internet access at home, you can use the computers at Lewisham Library, Catford Library or the Library at Deptford Lounge. Don't forget to bring a Passport-size photo and proof of identity and address.
- You can also fill in a paper application form, which can be collected from all Lewisham libraries.
