Dear LPG, 

Nearly everyone has one, and we overlook ours unless it stops working. Have you noticed how many foods we can find on supermarket shelves with cooking direction options for a quick microwave session? 
There are even quick snacks that have no alternative instructions.

We put our TV dinners, morning porridge oats and snack items in, press a few buttons and then wait for the ‘ping’ but, one day not so long ago, mine ‘pinged’, and as I took my snack out, I felt the need to give this unsung hero of the kitchen a little extra recognition by paying it a little rhyming homage. 

It is funny how quickly we all get used to such things, but I remember how unsure I was about mine when I decided not to be the odd one out and get one for myself with the following result …

MY NEW MICROWAVE

I never really wanted one, but I got it anyway.
I said, “I am so scared of it; please take that thing away”.
It is just a modern-day fast-food trick, 
For people who are lazy and in need of a quick fix.”

When it first arrived, I was in so much doubt.
I preferred the cooker; I could quickly put that out.
This microwave has power; it will do the job with ease.
Give me an authentic gas oven, and I’ll be very pleased!

I plugged in my microwave; I was very slow to learn.
I heard some strange popping sounds and was about to turn!
This is all new to me; that is why I am so scared
This modern-day fast-food thing is making me so afraid.

Now I’ll be very careful as I prepare my food,
A new microwave for me? Is it really any good?
