Opening the cage gates this Christmas?
17 Dec 2023
Dear LPG,
Christmas is coming, and this will likely be the first one for at least two years when we can return to normal. I think that even though everyone will feel the financial pressure, visiting or entertaining your family will be allowed again.
As we age, entertaining on a family-wide scale becomes more of an effort. Still, I bet that I am not the only pensioner who enjoys having the old family home filled with all the family members whose old bedrooms have become storerooms, studies and spare rooms since they moved out. I am not mad about loads of noise, but my ears look forward to a bit of chaos once a year.
I suspect that there are many of us pensioners who have seen a lot less of our families since the pandemic restrictions have been relaxed because they have siblings, sons, daughters, nieces and nephews who still own a car that could well cost them an extra £12.50 just to get as far as the front door.
The good news is that the ULEZ charge will be lifted again this year between midnight on Christmas Eve and midnight on Christmas Day, according to the TFL website. If you plan a drive up to London to see the Christmas lights, such as they are, you can do it without incurring a congestion charge for Christmas week.
I looked because I would love to see my children on the big day and thought I would share the good news.
I feel my house is behind a costly fence, but the gate will be opened for just a bit over Christmas.
