Help To Live Independently
04 Sep 2017
Having the physical and mental capacity to live independently doesn’t mean that you don’t need any kind of help. As we get older, some activities become harder and sometimes we need a helping hand. There is nothing to be ashamed of. Whether you need help with your shopping or just some company, there are many groups and institutions that offer services you can turn to.
Lewisham Council provides many different services that can help you with day-to-day living so you can stay at home and live independently. If you’re eligible (it depends on your needs, your type of tenancy, whether you own your home and whether the structure of your home is suitable) you can get adaptations to your home. For example, you can apply for a bath seat, a shower board, walking frames etc.
On the other hand, homecare services can help you live independently at home through offering personal care (which includes help with getting in and out of bed, washing, dressing, preparing meals, taking medication, going to the toilet etc.…), and domestic care (help with housework, doing your shopping, and paperwork etc.).
However, if you are thinking about moving home and you have eligible needs, Lewisham Council can also give you information and advice on services that can support you locally such as care homes and supported tenancies.
