Versed thoughts (chapter 87): Lucky You
09 Dec 2025
Dear LPG,
Have you ever looked out of your window onto your back garden and noticed a cat, perhaps your cat, who has a spot where he can be found every sunny morning? Each morning when I get up, one of the first things I feel the need to do is draw back the curtains and let in the light. And there she will be. Lucky, my neighbour’s cat.
I usually give her a passing glance and move on to item number two on my daily itinerary but, the day that I was inspired to write this poem, I watched for just a bit longer than usual and my imagination put me in her place for just long enough.
Many of us pensioners can identify with having relatively little to do as we get older, and if we get a bit board, I think we could do worse than take a little time to sit, contemplate, enjoy what nature has to offer, appreciate what we have and take a little empathic look at the animals, people and things around us…
My poem today is a reflection of my extended look at the roof at the end of my garden…
Lucky You
Lucky the pussycat sits on the highest spots in the garden with great pride.
The sun is out and he is more than pleased about such an easy lifestyle.
“Now that I’ve had my breakfast, I can spend some quality time to groom myself, as I can relax up here on the roof of the garden shed and observe all that is going on in all the gardens.
I can rest easily, sleep, spy on other cats and dogs, and see what they and their owners get up to, and this is how it should be; O Lucky Me!
I am very proud and happy to be laughing here on this high and lofty place, grooming myself as I bask in the sunshine at the breaking of day.
Soon it will be time for lunch! …yum YUM!
O yes, you are living it up, there is no doubt about that!”
“Lucky you!” replied the neighbour’s cat, who came out to join his friend….
“Yes, Lucky Me… and that’s my name!”
