Deptford gets ready for the future
14 Aug 2017
Deptford is getting ready for the expected increase in population that new development plans in the area will bring. There is actually no time to waste. Two housing-led schemes will see over 300 new homes built in the town center, which will involve an additional demand on local services and public spaces.
The station was one of the first buildings to get ready for the future. Its steel framework and glass facade denote that Deptford is an area that is already thinking about future challenges and adapting to new times. Deptford Lounge is another building that is helping Deptford get ready for the future, a community hub that offers a wide range of services and facilities. New artists unit, an extended Wavelengths leisure center and the re-allocation of Tidemill Academy are other examples of what’s going on in the neighbourhood.
And there is much more coming. The Deptford Project includes the restoration of an historic Victorian carriage ramp and an adjacent eight-storey building containing 121 apartments and seven commercial units. The redevelopment of an estate on Reginald Road and the conversion of the old Tidemill School building into residential properties are also planned.
All these plans will change Deptford forever. How will these changes affect pensioners in Deptford? What do you think should be done to guarantee pensioners an adequate quality of life?
