Do You Remember Catford Greyhound Stadium?
23 Jul 2017
You probably remember Catford Greyhound Stadium. It opened in 1932 and it soon became one of the most popular places in Lewisham. Built on the land between Catford and Catford Bridge stations, it held races until 2003, when the stadium was closed. In 2005 the stadium was gutted by a fire and subsequently demolished.
You have probably heard of the redevelopment of the former Catford Greyhound Stadium too. This regeneration scheme, known as Catford Green, will offer 635 apartments along with new community facilities and open spaces, a redeveloped shopping center and a newly pedestrian Broadway. Catford Green is set amongst thoughtfully landscaped grounds, which seamlessly open onto the 54 green acres of Ladywell Fields. The plan also includes the naturalisation of the River Ravensbourne.
The scheme is due to be completed by Summer 2018 and, without a doubt, Catford Green will change Catford forever. You can get more information about this plan on this website: http://www.catfordstadium.info/ is it what Catford needs or do you think that a different regeneration scheme would be more positive for the area? Only time will tell.
