The importance of maintaining healthy family relationships

30 Sep 2017

Family is one of the most important aspects of a person’s life. What we are depends greatly on our family and the way we relate to our relatives and how they treat us when we are young determines who we are as an adult.

That is why it is so important to maintain healthy family relationships. Our behaviour defines who our children and grandchildren are. Therefore, we have a responsibility that we can’t ignore. For example, family provides a sense of belonging and it is a source of comfort, support, security, and protection.

Of course, each member of a family is different and that means that their aspirations are different too. It is in our hands to help the younger generations of our family find out who they are and also who they want to be, so making them feel special and encouraging them to follow their dreams is crucial to have a positive impact on their future.

So why is it important to keep healthy family relationships? The answer is very simple: because we care about them. Other family members’ success depends partly on how good their family relationships have been, so we need to make sure that we do our best to maintain those relationships strong and healthy.

And there is also another reason why we should nurture family relationships: in the same way our children once depended completely on us, we may eventually become dependent on them, so having a healthy relationship with them will help us in the future. Don’t think that that is a selfish way of thinking, that is simply life: sometimes people depend on us to survive, and sometimes we depend on other people.
