Versed thoughts (chapter 82): A Prayer for Guidance
5 May 2026
Dear LPG.
Each of us finds guidance in different places. For me, there is great comfort in the words of the Bible. If you ask most people if they can quote any of its verses, I suspect they would be able to recall the 23rd Psalm. When things go wrong, it is often one of the first passages people turn to for comfort in that book.
This is also where I found the inspiration for my poem today. While many don’t pray often or even use that particular book as a reference, it might serve as a starting point if they're ever motivated to try it...
A Prayer for Guidance
(FOR HIS NAME’S SAKE)
Dear Lord, you are the shepherd of my soul.
Hear my humble prayer. Continue to lead me in paths of righteousness;
“For your dear name’s sake.”
Lead me into green pastures and by calm waters so that I can be nourished, refreshed and rested for the continuation of my earthly pilgrimage; “For your dear name’s sake.”
Grant unto me salvation, healing and complete restoration, that at the end of this life I will find eternal rest, peace and joy in your divine presence where the soul never dies. “For your dear name’s sake.”
I believe that you are the Good Shepherd, that you are in control of my life, that you will take care of all my needs, whatever they are, great or small.
All this and more you will do for me; you will never fail me; you will bless my life with abundance, you will protect, heal, satisfy and comfort me as long as I am alive. “For your dear name’s sake.”
Amen.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness.
For His name’s sake. Psalm 23:3 NKJV
