Versed thoughts (chapter 89): Fly Trap

27 Mar 2026

Dear LPG readers,

I   found one of those bits of paper that you so often scribble on and do nothing with in a box of stuff recently and it reminded me of just how much things change.  It was a poem penned by a friend and I forgot until I reread it just how real the sentiments it conveyed were at the time of writing.

But somehow the flies that used to bother us back at the turn of the century have all but stopped being there at all during our more recent summers.  The internet blames the climate and the chemicals that the 21st century has brought with it but I think that ,as we get older, fewer and fewer of us will remember the bugs and annoying little flying things that we would have had so many problems trying to get out of the house each summer.

For those that do, I hope that the following words will bring back a few memories…

Fly Trap

I was sitting in a chair
A fly kept buzzing by
If you don’t stop annoying me
Very soon you are going to die

As I looked upon the floor
The black thing had just landed
Right, I thought, I have had enough
I have caught you now red handed

Out came the flycatcher
Looking on with glee
That’s twice you have tried to kill me
You need glasses I can see

So I opened up the door
I said “Please go on your way”
Or I will have another try
That will really make my day
